*pauses OTR tour to address you properly*

First off, I am not the eleventh letter of the alphabet. Nor am I the abbreviation for potassium on the periodic table. Furthermore I am not the half assed response you text back to folks when they’re getting on your nerves.

I’m an AKA. A woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha. And I’d appreciate it if you called me as such when addressing my sorority affiliations. This isn’t said to read you, but to help you. Because you may stumble across someone who ain’t me and if you refer to them as a “K”, they WILL read you for filth.

Secondly, I find that the questions you asked are quite condescending in the tone. But I’m gonna answer your questions anyway. But I really and truly advise you to work on your approach because right now? This ain’t it, honey bun, this ain’t it at all.

With that said…

I’m proud to be an AKA because AKA is something to be proud of. The women that blazed the trail before me are all women to aspire to because they’re all successful in their own right. What makes AKA great for me are the bonds that manifest through it, the push she has given me to grow, and the work that is always there to be done. I find that I need people in my life that are of substance, and my Sorors are that. I didn’t want to join another organization because none of them were a fit for myself, my goals, and my aims. That’s not to discredit any of the work that they do because we are ALL based on service, sisterhood, and scholarship —but the women I met of AKA before I became one all had a mind similar to mine. Even though all of our paths are different, the core of our being aligned with Alpha Kappa Alpha.

yaaaaaaaaaaas.
